DAISY Award

"DAISY" is an acronym for "Diseases Attacking the Immune System". The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

"BEE" is an acronym for "Being Excellent Everyday" and this award program will be adopted by UVA Community Health and will kick-off in 2025. The BEE Award symbolizes the relationship between nursing and other members of the care team - the same way bees and flowers depend on one another. This special program recognizes excellence among the team members who work alongside our nursing teams delivering expert, compassionate care.
