The Nursing Professional Governance Organization (NPGO) is the shared decision-making structure for UVA Community Health nurses. Our Nursing Professional Practice Model (PPM) integrates all of the NPGO’s core principles.

Relationship-Based Care (RBC) is a model for cultural transformation and an operational framework aimed at enhancing safety, quality, patient satisfaction, and team member well-being by strengthening relationships throughout the organization. RBC emphasizes the importance of how we care for our patients, their families (community), and one another. It focuses on three key relationships essential for providing compassionate and humane healthcare: the nurse's relationship with patients and families, relationships among colleagues (team), and the nurse's relationship with self. RBC incorporates principles that encourage caring behaviors, guiding the transformation of infrastructure, processes, systems, and practices to support caregivers across all disciplines in building therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
