Welcome to the UVA Community Health Nurse Residents Program!

Purpose

The nurse residency program is designed to:

  • Support new graduate nurses during their first year in the nursing profession
  • Ensure adequate orientation to specialty through classes and preceptors
  • Enculturate new nurses through socialization in cohorts and mentorships

 

Mission 

To prepare and empower nurses as they transition into professional practice by cultivating the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to deliver exceptional, evidence‑based care. Rooted in our organizational commitment to transform health and inspire hope for all Virginians, we foster a culture of continuous learning, resilience, and well‑being that supports nurses in thriving personally and professionally as they grow into compassionate, competent leaders in healthcare.

Goals:

  • Improved confidence in skills
  • Competent nurses practicing independently
  • Successful advancement of a clinician 1 to a clinician 2 showing everyday practice of UVACH’s ASPIRE values.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
